Welcome to StyleGhost. This Privacy Policy explains how StyleGhost ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects your information when you use our AI-powered content creation platform.

Important: StyleGhost is a tool, not a publisher. You are the data controller and content creator. We process your data only according to your instructions through the Service. You are solely responsible for the content you create, share, and publish using StyleGhost.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

• Email address
• Name (if provided)
• Authentication credentials (hashed passwords or OAuth tokens)
• Profile information you choose to add

2.2 Content You Create

We store content you create or upload to StyleGhost, including:

• Drafts, posts, and edited content
• Style examples and writing samples
• Source materials (essays, videos, URLs)
• Style profiles and voice analysis results
• Feedback and annotations on AI-generated content

We automatically collect information about how you use StyleGhost:

• Analytics data (collected via PostHog)

2.4 OAuth Tokens for Third-Party Platforms

When you connect StyleGhost to third-party platforms (X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Threads), we securely store OAuth access tokens to publish content on your behalf. We never see or store your social media passwords.

3. How We Use Your Information

3.1 Service Delivery

We use your information to:

• Provide and maintain the StyleGhost platform
• Generate AI content based on your inputs and style
• Publish content to connected third-party platforms
• Process your requests and support inquiries
• Send service-related notifications (scheduled posts, errors, etc.)

3.2 Style Data for AI Model Improvement

We use your writing style patterns (word choices, sentence structure, formatting preferences, tone, and stylistic conventions) to train and improve our AI models. This is essential to StyleGhost's core value proposition: learning your unique voice.

What we use: Style patterns, linguistic features, and writing conventions (excluding personally identifiable information).

What we do NOT use: Personal information, private details, or identifiable content from your writing.

3.3 Analytics and Product Improvement

We use aggregated, anonymized data to:

• Understand how users interact with StyleGhost
• Identify and fix bugs
• Develop new features and improve existing ones
• Optimize performance and user experience

4. User Responsibilities

You are responsible for all content you create, upload, or publish using StyleGhost. By using our Service, you agree to:

You must follow all applicable copyright laws. Before using third-party content (essays, articles, videos, images):

• Ensure you have the legal right to use the material
• Obtain necessary permissions, licenses, or consents
• Comply with fair use doctrine where applicable
• Respect intellectual property rights of content creators

StyleGhost does not grant you rights to use copyrighted material. You are solely liable for copyright infringement claims arising from your use of the Service.

4.2 Consent Requirements

You must obtain consent before using others' content. If you're repurposing someone else's work (even with permission), you must:

• Get explicit written consent from the content owner
• Follow any attribution or crediting requirements
• Comply with platform-specific content policies
• Respect privacy rights and publicity rights

4.3 Platform Terms Compliance

When publishing to third-party platforms (X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Threads), you are responsible for complying with their terms of service, community guidelines, and content policies. StyleGhost is not responsible for enforcing third-party platform rules.

4.4 Data Controller Status

You are the data controller of any content you create using StyleGhost. StyleGhost acts as a data processor, processing your content only according to your instructions through the Service. You remain responsible for data protection obligations under GDPR, CCPA, and other privacy laws.

5. Data Retention for AI Training

By using StyleGhost, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use your writing style patterns (excluding personal information) to train and improve our AI models.

5.1 What We Retain

We retain style data derived from your content, including:

• Word choice patterns and vocabulary preferences
• Sentence structure and grammatical conventions
• Formatting and stylistic choices
• Tone, voice, and rhetorical patterns
• Before/after editing pairs (to improve AI suggestions)

5.2 Why This Matters

This style data is proprietary to StyleGhost and essential to our service quality. It allows us to:

• Learn your unique writing voice
• Generate content that matches your style
• Improve AI accuracy and relevance
• Train models for all users (not just you)

5.3 Privacy Protections

We take extensive measures to protect your privacy in training data:

• Personal information (names, addresses, phone numbers, emails) is stripped from training data
• Style patterns are abstracted and anonymized before model training
• No identifiable content appears in AI outputs for other users
• Training data is encrypted and access-controlled

5.4 Opting Out

If you delete your account, we will stop using your style data for future model training. However, data already incorporated into trained models cannot be retroactively removed (this is a technical limitation of machine learning systems).

6. Data We Do NOT Sell

We will never sell your personal information.

We will never make personally identifiable information (PII) publicly available.

6.1 No Third-Party Data Sales

StyleGhost does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes. Your email, name, content, and usage data are not sold to advertisers, data brokers, or other companies.

6.2 No Public PII Disclosure

We do not make your personally identifiable information publicly available. Your email, account details, and private content remain private unless you choose to share them.

6.3 What We Do Share

We may share information only in these limited circumstances:

• Service Providers: We use third-party services (Supabase for database, Vercel for hosting, PostHog for analytics) that process data on our behalf under strict confidentiality agreements.
• Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government request.
• Business Transfers: If StyleGhost is acquired or merged, your data may transfer to the new entity (you'll be notified).

7. Third-Party Platform Integrations

Once you connect your StyleGhost account to third-party platforms (X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Threads), those platforms' terms of service and privacy policies govern their handling of your data.

7.1 X/Twitter

When you connect your X/Twitter account, StyleGhost can publish posts on your behalf. X/Twitter's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply to content published on their platform.

7.2 LinkedIn

When you connect your LinkedIn account, StyleGhost can publish posts on your behalf. LinkedIn's Privacy Policy and User Agreement apply to content published on their platform.

7.3 Threads

When you connect your Threads account, StyleGhost can publish posts on your behalf. Meta's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply to content published on Threads.

7.4 Limited Responsibility

StyleGhost is not responsible for how third-party platforms use, store, or protect your information. Once published, your content is subject to those platforms' data practices, security measures, and content policies. We recommend reviewing their privacy policies before connecting your accounts.

7.5 Revoking Access

You can disconnect third-party platforms from StyleGhost at any time in your account settings. This revokes StyleGhost's access but does not delete content already published to those platforms.

8. Limitation of Liability

8.1 "AS IS" Service Disclaimer

StyleGhost provides the Service on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. AI-generated content may contain inaccuracies, errors, or inappropriate suggestions. You are responsible for reviewing and editing all content before publishing.

8.2 No Liability for User-Generated Content

StyleGhost does not control, verify, or endorse any content created, uploaded, or shared by users. We are not responsible for:

• Accuracy, quality, or legality of user-generated content
• Copyright or trademark infringement by users
• Defamatory, offensive, or harmful content created by users
• Consequences of publishing AI-generated content
• Third-party claims arising from your use of the Service

8.3 No Liability for Copyright Infringement

Users are solely responsible for ensuring their content complies with copyright laws. StyleGhost is not liable for copyright infringement claims arising from user actions. We comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and will respond to valid takedown notices.

8.4 Limitation of Damages

To the maximum extent permitted by law, StyleGhost shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from:

• Your use or inability to use the Service
• Unauthorized access to or alteration of your content
• Third-party conduct or content on the Service
• Any other matter relating to the Service

8.5 DMCA Safe Harbor Protections

StyleGhost complies with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and qualifies for safe harbor protections under 17 U.S.C. § 512. We respond promptly to valid copyright infringement notices and will terminate accounts of repeat infringers.

If you believe content on StyleGhost infringes your copyright, please submit a DMCA notice to: support@styleghost.ai (include: your contact information, description of copyrighted work, location of infringing material, statement of good faith belief, and electronic signature).

9. Your Rights (GDPR/CCPA Compliance)

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

9.1 Access Your Data

You have the right to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you. Contact us at support@styleghost.ai to request a data export.

9.2 Delete Your Data

You have the right to request deletion of your personal information. You can delete your account in Settings, or contact us for manual deletion.

Note: Deleting your account will remove your personal information and content from active systems. However, style data already incorporated into trained AI models cannot be retroactively removed (see Section 5.4).

9.3 Export Your Data

You have the right to receive your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format (data portability). We provide data export functionality in your account settings.

9.4 Opt Out of Data Selling (CCPA)

We do not sell your personal information. However, if you are a California resident, you have the right to opt out of data sales. Since we don't sell data, no opt-out is necessary.

9.5 Withdraw Consent (GDPR)

If we rely on your consent to process personal data, you have the right to withdraw consent at any time. This does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

9.6 Right to Object

You have the right to object to processing of your personal information for direct marketing purposes or based on legitimate interests. Contact us to exercise this right.

9.7 Right to Rectification

You have the right to correct inaccurate or incomplete personal information. You can update most information in your account settings.

We will respond to your request within 30 days (GDPR) or 45 days (CCPA). We may need to verify your identity before processing your request.

10. AI-Specific Disclosures (2026 Compliance)

10.1 California SB-942: AI-Generated Content Transparency

StyleGhost uses artificial intelligence to generate content. All content produced by StyleGhost is AI-generated or AI-assisted, based on your inputs, style examples, and instructions. You are responsible for reviewing, editing, and verifying AI-generated content before publishing.

California law (SB-942, effective January 1, 2026) requires transparency about AI-generated content. We disclose:

• Content is generated using large language models (LLMs)
• AI may produce inaccurate, biased, or inappropriate outputs
• Users must review and approve all AI-generated content
• StyleGhost is not liable for errors in AI-generated content

10.2 California AB 2013: Training Data Sources

StyleGhost's AI models are trained on:

• User-provided style examples and writing samples
• Before/after editing pairs from user corrections
• Third-party foundation models (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) accessed via OpenRouter
• Publicly available text data used by underlying model providers

We do not have full visibility into training data used by third-party model providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.). Refer to their documentation for details on training data sources.

10.3 EU AI Act Compliance Statement

The EU AI Act (Regulation 2024/1689, general application date: August 2, 2026) establishes requirements for AI systems based on risk levels. StyleGhost's AI content generation system is classified as a limited-risk AI system (not high-risk).

We comply with transparency obligations by:

• Disclosing that content is AI-generated
• Providing information about AI system capabilities and limitations
• Ensuring human oversight (users review and edit AI outputs)
• Maintaining documentation of AI system design and data governance

10.4 AI Limitations and Risks

AI-generated content may contain errors, biases, or inaccuracies. Users should be aware of the following risks:

• Hallucinations: AI may generate false or fabricated information
• Bias: AI models may reflect biases present in training data
• Inconsistency: AI outputs may vary unpredictably
• Copyright Risk: AI may inadvertently reproduce copyrighted material

You are responsible for verifying AI-generated content before publishing. StyleGhost is not liable for consequences of publishing AI-generated content.

11. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information:

11.1 Encryption

• Data in Transit: All data transmitted between your browser and StyleGhost is encrypted using TLS (Transport Layer Security)
• Data at Rest: Data stored in our database (Supabase) is encrypted using AES-256 encryption

11.2 Access Controls

• Row-Level Security: Database access is restricted by user authentication (you can only access your own data)
• OAuth Tokens: Third-party access tokens are encrypted and stored securely
• Admin Access: Internal access to user data is restricted and logged

11.3 Security Audits

We regularly review our security practices and infrastructure. We use trusted third-party providers (Supabase, Vercel) that undergo independent security audits and maintain SOC 2 compliance.

11.4 Data Breach Notification

In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you via email within 72 hours (GDPR requirement) and provide details about the breach, affected data, and remediation steps.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or business operations.
